Parau Cave

Parau cave is located in Parau Mountain (Kuh-e-Parau) that is located in Kermanshah province, 12km from Kermanshah city on the Northeast. Its entrance is situated at an altitude of 3050 meters above sea level – the highest among the world’s major caves. As It’s Located in Zagros Range and there is water flow in the cave the temperature is mostly between 1c degree to 5c degrees. This is the temperature in the exploring season (Summer-Fall) and maybe a few degrees lower in winter while the area is very cold. Parou cave was discovered and explored in 1971 by John Middleton and his team for the first time. It was the largest vertical cave and that’s why he called it the Everest of caves in the world. The cave’s length is 1454 meters and it has a depth of 752.5 meters. Parou Cave well consists of a system of 26 wells with different depths and a number of short wells, corridors, and cliffs. Throughout the system, the walls and ceilings are covered in rocky limestone features. At the end of the 26th well, there is a watering hole. Parou cave-well is one of the most difficult caves in Iran for explorers, and special training and preparations are required before visiting.

Special Circumstance
After the first easy 120 meters Tang-e-Gelkhizeh siphon (The size is 30*40 cm) will show you if you are fit for Parau or not. If you pass this and the rest a few meters after it swarming in mud then you have the least skills for Parau.
