The Arasbaran zone is about 148.7 thousand hectares. Special climate, semi-humid weather, and fog in this area caused the creation of semi-dense forests. Arasbaran forests due to rare and unique plant species and high biodiversity have been announced as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO since 1976. Plant species diversity is one of the special features of this growing area. More than 775 plant species have been identified in this protected area that 55 species were found in this area for the first time. Arasbaran is home to 215 species of birds,29 species of reptiles, 48 species of mammals, notably wild Goat, Wild Boar, Brown Bear, Wolf, Lynx, and Leopard, and 17 species of fish. Important animals species which you may have chance to see in these forests are: goats, rams, sheep, wild boar, brown bear, wolf, fox, rabbit, leopard, partridge, pheasant, types of hunting, snake,… but the most important and the rarest animal species known in this area is Caucasian grouse that Arasbaran is one of its rare habitats.
