Caspian Hyrcanian mixed forests
Hyrcania forests are the most unique forests in the world which are like a green strip covering the northern slope of the Alborz Mountains and southern coasts of the Caspian Sea. This region is extended from Astara in the Northwest toward Gorgan in the east of Iran. These forests which are remained from the Jurassic duration now contain 1.8 million hectares of forests of Iran. The remnants of the Tertiary geological history of these forests and the presence of 80 species of woody plants along with rare plants and animals species indicate that the land can be used as a living museum. There are many pristine forests in this area that have many animal species such as the Caspian tiger, boar, brown bears, wolves, the Caucasus leopard, lynx, chamois, deer, badger, golden jackal, and pheasants.
