Zagros Forest
Zagros forests with about 6 million hectares area contain 41/9 percent of forests in Iran.
The main species in this region are Quercus spp. (oaks), Pistacia mutica (wild pistachio), Crategus spp. and Pyrus spp.
There are 165 woody species (tree and shrub) and 182 bush and herbaceous species only in northern Zagros.
The soaring mountains, roaring rivers, diverse wildlife, and beautiful landscape of Zagros make this region unique. This area is laid to a vast extent that contains 12 provinces of Iran.
Its climate is Mediterranean with cold winters and dry summers. Zagros’ weather is different since it is located near various climates such as Iranian–Turanian, desert-sandy, and tropical. These forests because of being high and the vast area which they are covering, have diverse and rich wildlife. Many animal species such as bear, boar, ram, leopard which live in the area, give special attraction to this land.
